Qantas non-stop Sydney to London flights (Project Sunrise) from October 2027

Qantas has confirmed that the first non-stop flights between Sydney and London will start in October 2027 on a custom Airbus A350-1000ULR. The service is planned as a daily flight of up to about 22 hours (as little as 19 hours in some directions), with tickets due to go on sale in February 2027 and Sydney to New York planned next. Qantas says its existing Perth to London non-stop and Sydney via Singapore to London services will continue. Until then, London Heathrow to Perth remains the only non-stop UK to Australia flight.

Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport opens 25 October 2026

Sydney's second airport is scheduled to open to passengers on 25 October 2026 with Jetstar's first flight to the Gold Coast, and it will operate without a curfew. Air New Zealand is due to start Auckland flights on 26 October 2026, and Singapore Airlines daily Singapore flights from 23 November 2026, while Qantas domestic services begin in March 2027. UK to Sydney itineraries are still expected to use Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport for now, but always check the airport code on your ticket.

Rugby World Cup 2027 in Australia (1 October to 13 November 2027)

The 24-team tournament will be played in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Newcastle, Perth, Sydney and Townsville. Australia opens against Hong Kong in Perth on 1 October 2027.
